With the addition of WiiWare the Nintendo Wii has become even more useful and fun by letting users download small games for a small price, similar to the Xbox Live Arcade, but one nagging problem has been created, the lack of on-board storage on the console.

The Wii only comes with 512 MB of built-in NAND flash memory which is enough of just the basic saved games and channels, but as soon as you start downloading games from Virtual Console or WiiWare it really starts to take up space fast.

I went and picked up a 2GB SD card to give the console lots of room to store stuff, but it seems the SD card doesn't actually become available as system memory, it's just a backup card.

This "design" is beyond idiocy if Nintendo expects to have any success with their downloadable content. Perhaps a firmware update could allow the SD card to become part of the system memory. I really hope it happens soon.
