Well I decided to upgrade since there are a few games coming out, FarCry 2, Crysis 2, etc and I need more processing power. I just got the parts yesterday, but had some delays that mean I can't get it together till probably tomorrow when I should receive the power supply. This time around I went with an Intel Dual-Core E8400 which is clocked at 3Ghz and is pretty easy to overclock to 4Ghz, which is my target. AMD is really suffering on the performance front right now and wanted something fast enough to play new games. I also looked into getting a quad-core Intel, but decided that for gaming it would be more beneficial at this time to go for overall speed. For the motherboard a got a EVGA Nforce 750I SLI FTW. I had a bit of a hard time deciding on a nVidia based motherboard, but decided on this one because it had what I wanted and was a decent price (btw motherboards are overpriced right now...). It may not be the best board out there, but it's good good reviews from most people and at least this time I'll have the option of SLI. I went with an OCZ 500SXS power supply, but when I got it I realized it did not have an 8 pin ATX 12V cable, and on top of that the cable wasn't long enough to reach the plug on my motherboard. So I RMA'ed it and ordered a Corsair VX550W 550W which was a little bit more but has really good reviews and longer cables. For RAM decided to upgrade from 3GB (2x1GB, 2x512MB) of to 4GB (2x2GB). RAM is incredibly cheap right now, I got the whole 4GB for around $90 before $25 rebate! |

I picked up the Eee PC 1000H last month and I have to let everyone know that is it the best notebook I have ever used, and I've used many different ones. The two big updates on the 1000H version are the screen size and standard magnetic hard drive instead of a solid state drive. I replaced the 80GB hard drive with a 320GB drive for $100, so now I can have all my media and movies with me at work or wherever I want. I also have connected it into my widescreen TV to watch divx movies. I plan to write a full page on my thoughts about the 1000H sometime in the future. Since I bought the new one, I'm selling my 701 for $350, it comes with carrying case, 8GB SDHC storage card and car adapter. That is a good deal! |

I think Adam Sessler voices my opinions on the current state of gamers very well. I have grown tired of people on servers smack talking. |

"If Windows 7 really is scheduled to make an appearance during the second half of 2009, does this mean that making the move to Vista is now a pointless effort?
TG Daily claim to have uncovered a roadmap for Windows 7 whichWindows 7 debut in 2009? Another reason to skip Vista suggests that Windows 7 is being fast-tracked:
Several industry sources have confirmed to TG Daily that a very early version of Windows 7, previously code-named Blackcomb Vienna, already has been shipped to “key partners” as a “Milestone 1? (M1) code drop for validation purposes. A roadmap received by TG Daily indicates that the new operating system will be introduced in the second half of 2009.
While it has generally been believed that Windows 7 was scheduled for a 2010 debut, Microsoft has revised the roadmap and apparently moved up the release date by a few months: A recently distributed roadmap of the OS lists a release to manufacturing in H2 2009. Microsoft declined to comment on this date.
So this presents a dilemma for those who’ve not yet made the switch from XP to Vista. With 7 on the horizon, is it worth the time, effort and money making the switch when chances are that Microsoft will be pushing for another switch in a couple of years? But for those who have made the leap to Vista, these people could be looking at seeing a beta for 7 being available in a year or so.
My best guess here (combined with a little asking around) is that this roadmap is real and that Microsoft is speeding up development on Windows 7. It’s also highly probably that this is down to the fact that some customers have made it clear that they’re happy to stick with XP until the next version is released.
Trying to figure out what customers will want from Windows 7 isn’t easy. Judging by the feedback I’ve been coming across, Windows 7 will need to be faster than Vista, more robust, present the user with fewer compatibility hassles (note that TG Daily claim that Milestone 1 shipped in both x86 and x64 versions - an indication that support for 32-bit will continue) and not hammer system resources as much as Vista does. Oh, and it should be packed with compelling features to make the upgrade worthwhile. That could be a pretty tough call.
But what does this mean for Vista? Well, I’m ready to bet that Windows Ultimate Extras are history. I’d also be surprised if we see an SP2 for Vista before Windows 7 is released, especially if Microsoft is pulling out all the stops for 7. Vista feels more and more like a stop-gap between XP and 7.
What would you want from Windows 7?" |

Well after some technical difficulties with the gallery I'm happy to say that it's all working again. The fix was simple, it seems that when I updated the location of the gallery folders a couple of slashes (/) were left off. My guess is that Ivory used them in an e-mail to someone so I was running short. (haha) Anyways, I hope to have some more images up soon. I definitely need to upload some computer images. |

Well I was hoping someday to go and see Universal Studios, and the Back to the Future set was one of the places I would have liked to see. Maybe they'll be able to repair it.
A large fire tore through a back lot at Universal Studios early Sunday, destroying a set from "Back to the Future", the King Kong exhibit and thousands of videos and reels in a vault.
The blaze broke out on a sound stage at the theme park in a set featuring New York brownstones facades around 4:30 a.m. at the 400-acre property, Los Angeles County Fire Chief Michael Freeman said. The fire was contained to the lot but still burning several hours later.
Roughly 40,000 to 50,000 videos and reels were in the video vault, but there are duplicates stored in a different location, said Ron Meyer, NBC Universal president and chief operating officer. Firefighters managed to recover hundreds of those titles from the vault.
"Nothing is lost forever," Meyer said.
The videos included every film that Universal has produced and footage from television series including "Miami Vice" and "I Love Lucy."
The iconic courthouse square from "Back to the Future" was also destroyed, Freeman said, and the famous clock tower that enabled Michael J. Fox's character to travel through time was damaged.
Two mock New York and New England streets used both for movie-making and as tourist displays were a total loss, said Darryl Jacobs, Los Angeles County fire inspector.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, and no initial damage estimates were given. Source: Yahoo News |
