Activision has announced official details on the new Guitar Hero 4: World Tour. The release date is set for Fall 2008 and will add new features to the list of great past versions.

• The game will include a drum kit with symbols, a new guitar controller, and microphone.
• It will also come with a new Music Studio that will allow players to compose, record, and share their own music.
• Will feature an 8-player "Battle of the Bands" mode for online and possibly offline play.
• Available on Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, DS and Wii.

I'm just hoping that the Wii version gets a Gibson style guitar again, it's the best style of all the consoles! I'm guessing that the guitars from GH3 will be compatible with the new game, but I'll keep an eye out for a confirmation of that.
